Three Exceptional Economics Students Awarded Reva Daniels Metzinger Awards

Three Economics undergraduate students were awarded Reva Daniels Metzinger Scholarships in Fall 2024: Gillian Haber, Eliza Terziev, and Drake Shook.

These students were chosen for achieving academic excellence, particularly in upper-division economics courses. Awardees are given a certificate and a cash prize of $2,000.

Gillian Haber is a senior Economics major from Jacksonville, Florida. She is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and served as its VP of finance during the 2023-2024 academic year. Haber will graduate in May 2025 and plans to begin the Master’s in Applied Economics Program at FSU.

“This financial assistance will aid me in this endeavor so that I can continue to place all of my efforts into my coursework,” said Haber. “I feel honored and incredibly grateful to have been selected as a recipient.”

She hopes to be able to provide a scholarship to another student like her one day.

Eliza Terziev is a senior Economics student from Champaign, Illinois. She is an Economics and Accounting tutor at FSU’s Academic Center for Excellence, a policy intern at the Reason Foundation, and a student leader in the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) student group. The PPE program hosts guest lecturers and professors from across the country.

“As a leader, I have the opportunity to speak with them one-on-one and learn about their career trajectories. Every time I speak to an economist, including my own professors, I think ‘that’s exactly what I want to do,’” said Terziev.

After getting her undergraduate degree, Terziev plans on continuing her education and obtaining a Ph.D. in Economics.

“In order to prepare for success in a Ph.D. program in Economics, I need to expand my mathematics coursework,” said Terziev. “This scholarship will help me enormously with being able to afford these additional classes.”

Drake Shook is a third-year student from Atlanta, Georgia, pursuing a dual degree in Economics and Finance with a minor in Mathematics.

“I originally was interested in FSU due to my mom, who was an Economics graduate from FSU in ’89,” Shook said. “She is my biggest inspiration, supporter in life, and something called me to follow her path.”

Shook is a James M. Seneff Scholar with the College of Business and involved with the Consulting Group at FSU. This summer, he will intern with PwC in New York City. He hopes to work in strategy consulting and eventually earn an MBA.

“Due to this scholarship, I know that I will be able to live in New York this summer and propel my career in the world of consulting,” Shook said.
