The Department of Sociology is accepting submissions for two Sociology Paper Awards, due April 5, 2024, to recognize outstanding undergraduate academic excellence.
Winners of the Outstanding Undergraduate Paper Award and the Irene Padavic Award for Sociological Imagination will receive a monetary prize and recognition at the Sociology Department Awards Ceremony.
The Outstanding Undergraduate Paper Award is given to the undergraduate student paper that best employs a clear sociological perspective throughout the analysis.
The Irene Padavic Award for Sociological Imagination is given to one undergraduate sociology major or minor student who can best express how sociological thinking has impacted their own worldview, ideas, or other areas of their life, with specific attention to gender and the economic system.
For this award, students should submit a 1-2 page single-spaced narrative that addresses how sociology has shaped their college experience, including how their studies have impacted their point of view and/or plans for the future. Submissions should make specific reference to the intersection of work, gender, and the social world.
Submissions for either award may be of any length, style, or format. The paper must be sole-authored, or student co-authored, with no faculty authors. Course-related papers from any class may be revised for this competition if they employ a clear sociological perspective.
Email submissions to troach@fsu.edu with the paper award you are submitting in the subject line of the email.
