FSU’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) celebrated the graduation of 28 students at the William Johnston building on Friday, May 2.
DURP graduate Susan Poplin, MSP, AICP, Administrator of Comprehensive Planning for the Tallahassee Leon County Planning Department, served as keynote speaker and shared lessons and insights from her career. Poplin graduated with her Master of Science in Planning (MSP) in 1995 and has served in planning roles for the Florida Department of Community Affairs and the City of Tallahassee, before her work with Leon County.
“Congratulations to this year’s Urban and Regional Planning graduates. Our graduates have completed a rigorous and diverse set of courses, and many have already secured positions working for public agencies and consulting firms,” said Michael Duncan, Ph.D., department chair and professor of urban and regional planning. “We are excited to see the great work they will do in helping to achieve more sustainable and resilient communities.”
The MSP is the professional degree of most planners in the United States. Graduates of DURP’s program work in more than 40 states and about 30 foreign countries, with the largest proportion working in Florida. The principal aim of the MSP program is to train students for professional careers in planning, allowing them to function in both generalist and specialist roles.
